Ahmed Naji is an Egyptian novelist who was sentenced to two-years in prison in February 2016 because a passage in his novel Istikhdam al-Hayah (The Use of Life), published in Akhbar al-Adab magazine, was considered to have 'violated public modesty'. To highlight his case and support the author, readings in solidarity with Ahmed Naji are being held in several cities around the world, including Paris, Beirut, Kampala, Turin, Amsterdam, Oslo, Frankfurt, Kuwait, NYC, the Bronx, Boston and London. A reading in London will take place at SOAS (room B111) from 2-4pm. Everyone is welcome. For more information see https://www.englishpen.org/campaigns/worldwide-reading-for-ahmed-naji/
